A mystical, magical, mermaid, whose music and magic have lived on for generations
“From the magic within our hearts and the adventures beyond the horizon, there is only one” … “Disney”. The little mermaid is a classic Disney that was first released in 1989: the beginning of the Disney renaissance. With fantastic animation and what people call a one of a kind soundtrack. You won’t find a more fintastic movie.
The movie begins on a boat; everybody is dancing singing and having a good time. When suddenly, the ship bursts into flames when Prince Eric (a dashing young prince) gets thrown into the water after trying to save the rest of his crew. Ariel, a gorgeous young mermaid, witnesses the event and dragged the Prince to shore: effectively saving his life. How often, especially in the 1900’s did the princess save the prince? Almost never, but right here at the beginning of this classic movie Ariel defies the odds.
Continuing into the movie you get to witness some of the greatest musical phenomenon’s to ever grace your television screen. Songs about gadgets and gizmos, whozits and whatzits galore. Where an entire ocean’s worth of fish come to tell Ariel why she should stay under the sea. When the French chef gets his own full song to sing about the fish he is cooking, in one of the only Disney movies where the villain has a song, and the villain is a female – more realistically: a sea witch.
So, journey to a place where “the seaweed is always greener”, and “all the fish are happy”. To enjoy a classic film that pushes the boundaries of what a woman, especially a princess, should be doing in that time. Where the female villain is truly “a poor unfortunate soul” who in the end gets what’s coming to her. With a 92% rotten tomatoes rating; 3 Grammy nominations and a Grammy for their song Under the Sea. This movie really is something you don’t want to miss.
