Mission impossible: Fallout Review

‘Mission Impossible: Fallout’ is an action movie released July 27, 2018. It is the sixth movie in the ‘Mission Impossible’ franchise and it is a sequel, story wise, to specifically ‘Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation’, the previous film, which is also directed by Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise as super spy Ethan Hunt, as the main character, as every other film in the franchise has. The movie is well known for the incredible stunts done in the film, as was ‘Rogue Nation’ (In which Cruise straps himself to the side of a plane taking off which was done as a real-life stunt with Cruise) as they pushed the limit of how real a movie can look and what they can do.

Ethan Hunt and his crew are attempting to buy stolen plutonium from a black-market arms dealer Ethan has met before. The plans go horribly wrong when they are interrupted by a group of armed assassins who demand the plutonium from Ethan in exchange for his team’s life. The assassins turn out to be remnants of the Syndicate, which was the evil group from the previous movie who disbanded after Hunt captured their leader Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). After this Hunt spends the movie attempting to recover the lost plutonium, as the Syndicate finds a way to turn the cores into 3 dirty bombs capable of destroying 3 major cities. While he is on his mission, he is being shadowed by CIA agent August Walker (Henry Cavill) to ensure that Hunt doesn’t lose the plutonium again. The film has lots of star power with others such as Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Angela Basset, and Rebecca Ferguson.

This film is a masterpiece! It is a film you 100% had to have seen in theaters, and if not, I’d get working on that home movie system. It is one, if not the best movie of the year and for sure one of the greatest action movies of all time. It currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and is acclaimed by many critics. It is definitely the best in the franchise (as well as the highest grossing) and really defines this series for what it is: gritty realism with scenes so real looking they feel real, and that’s because they are. All the major scenes and stunts in this movie were done in real life, with Cruise learning to fly helicopters to do one of the most dangerous helicopter stunts ever done. Cruise preforming a HALO jump in real life with the camera man skydiving with him, Cruise jumping from building to building and driving towards oncoming traffic in Paris. His performance is flawless, and this is definitely one of the best performances of his career. Even though Hunt has all these special abilities and skills, he still feels human to the watcher. That’s something the other films don’t do a very good job capturing. And the supporting characters all seem that way too. The villain isn’t just a generic villain, the twists you don’t see coming and the emotion you feel while watching is real. You leave the theater feeling satisfied, and as if you go a discount, as the movie is so good it should have cost more to see!

The movie has so many things to like about it such as heart, action, drama, humor, and twists so good you’ll swear they were written by late 90’s M. Night Shyamalan. Some of the scenes are so beautiful you forget you’re watching an action movie, some action is so breathtaking you forget to breath, some of the deaths are so sad you swear you were a ‘Marvel’ fan seeing ‘Infinity War’ for the first time. This film took a lot of time, work and effort to make and it shows as this is one of the most fulfilling and satisfying you will ever see. This is really the first movie in the franchise than defines the series and shows everyone that it isn’t just a movie about Tom Cruise wanting to be James Bond, but something different and a franchise just as good! Buying an opening night ticket was one of the best choices I’ve ever made, and it is one of the films that makes me want to create a home theater to watch because a regular TV just can’t capture the magic you see on the big screen. The film has a great end, and I’m not sure if they’ll make a seventh film for the franchise as there isn’t much talk about one. But even if they don’t I’m happy with the way it ended, and I’d like to thank the entire cast and director for ending an amazing franchise with such a bang, and I look forward to it being known as a great classic for all time!
