Do you enjoy first-person-shooters? If you’re reading this you probably have, or are interested in trying it.  CS: GO (Counter-Strike:Global Offensive) is a game that has maintained its popularity for many years.  The multiplayer game was initially released back in 2012 and retailed at $49.99.  The game was developed by Hidden Path Entertainment and Valve Corporation. It is a tactical first-person shooter that requires strategic thinking. The game won an award for ‘The Best ESport game’ in 2015 and has been nominated every year since. The game can be picked up at any local GameStop or EB Games.

The initial release came with many different game modes. Game modes such as: ‘Deathmatch’, ‘Bomb Defusal’, ‘Hostage Rescue’, ‘Free-for-all’ and many more! In ‘Deathmatch’ there are 2 teams of 5 players, both teams must compete to secure the most eliminations throughout the game to guarantee victory.  ‘Deathmatch’ is undoubtedly one of the most popular game modes within CS: GO with over 30% of players matchmaking this mode.  ‘Bomb Defusal’ is essentially a ‘Search and Destroy’ mode.  Similarly, in ‘Bomb Defusal’ there are 2 teams of 5 players. Those teams consist of an attacking team and a defending team or as they call them in the game, ‘terrorists’ and ‘counter-terrorists’.  The attacking team attempts to plant the bomb at either site ‘a’ or ‘b’. Conversely, the defending team venture to defuse the bomb that was planted within 45 seconds or else it blows up. Both teams could decide whether to play objective or go for eliminations due to the fact that if either team has no players alive the other team automatically gets the win for that round.  The game ends once one of the teams has reached 12 points (12 round wins). ‘Hostage Rescue’ is a game mode where civilians that are held against their will for political or monetary gain need to be rescued by the ‘counter-terrorists’. Once the hostage is rescued, the ‘counter-terrorists’ win. However, if the hostage is not rescued within the time given the ‘terrorists’ are given the victory.  ‘Free-for-All’ is pretty self-explanatory. 10 people in a game and it's every man for himself, the person with the most kills at the end of the game (8 minutes) wins the game.

Although the game is 6 years old, the developers continue to make routine changes and patches to the game.  This keeps the game running perfectly and allows the players to experience new features regularly which keeps them intrigued and excited. The developers have released many new guns and skins that can be bought through a third-party website such as ‘CS: GO Roulette’ or ‘CS: GO Stash’. Weapons are purchased in-game with a currency that can be acquired by kills and round wins. The money does not carry over to the next game but rather resets every game.  The game is not pay-to-win as the only thing that can be bought using real money is weapon skins which adds no in-game advantage to the player. However, Some skins are worth thousands of dollars!

The game has a very big spot in the ESports community as it is considered the top 3 competitive games out right now. There are professional ESport tournaments hosted with the winner going home with a large sum of money. Tournaments such as FaceIT, UMG, and CS: GO Major. These are tournaments with millions in winnings. The winners (team)  often win over $300,00 dollars!

Overall, the game has maintained its popularity over the course of 6 years and continues to grow by the day.
