Initial Details
The new Bauer Supreme 2S Pro stick was released November 2nd, 2018 and features many new aspects of design that help the stick be better than its successor; the 1S, by a long shot. Firstly, the stick incorporates Bauer’s new Advanced Carbon Layering system, which reduces the stick’s overall weight by a whopping 8 grams (a lot in the hockey world). It also uses Bauer’s new DuraFlex resin system which increases the durability of the stick, making for no more of those pesky stick cracks resulting in breaks during games. The last minor upgrade that Bauer put into this stick is improving the stick recoil, so that you can get those quick snap or slap shots off whenever you need to during the game.
My Opinion
The first time I used the 2S Pro in a real game, I was a bit unimpressed. The stick felt somewhat unresponsive, possibly due to its gel blade core. However, over time I became used to the stick and started using what seemed to be flaws in the design of the stick to my advantage, such as using the softer blade to receive passes with less effort, or using the whippier kick point that is known in Supreme sticks to unload harder shots than ever before. I use it full time now and as my main stick. Bauer stated on its website that “With Supreme 2S Pro it's time to start scoring at a completely different level!” I think this is a little over the top in terms of guaranteed scoring, but I agree that the stick, if used properly, can become a deadly goalie-hunting weapon.
Compared to CCM
CCM’s competitor to the 2S Pro would be their new Super Tacks AS1. They are pretty similar in weight, but the Bauer edges out the AS1 by being 5 grams lighter at 415 grams, compared to the AS1’s 420 grams. In terms of graphics, the AS1 takes the cake, with its sleek black with yellow design outranking Bauer’s design: a shiny gold paint job with a black foundation, similar to that of the AS1’s. Although, in terms of overall performance, the Bauer is the best. Its position-specific design coupled with their newest technologies makes it an absolute beast on the ice, and would work for anyone seeking to improve their shot power.
The Conclusion: Worth a trip to Boomtown?
Bauer’s Supreme 2S Pro incorporates many different new technologies that Bauer has developed throughout their 92-year lifespan in the hockey market, and it really pays off in this new stick, as it sees great improvements compared to the last release in the line of products. I expect Bauer to continue in delivering top-notch products in the future, as this stick is a move in the right direction for them. 9.2/10
