The Door to the Mines of Moria

After a long day's travel, we finally reached the Gates of Moria, however it did not seem like much of a gate. It was more a wall of rocks, nothing too special for the Gate of Moria. Although Gandalf explained that these doors are Dwarven doors and that they are hidden in the rocks so that none shall see.


The Gate was uncovered by the moonlight. It was a large engraving of a door with a star in the middle and, according to Gandalf, the writing on top of the door was in Elvish. The door was in the middle of two large swirling trees. The writing seemed to be a riddle and read “say friend to enter,” I watched as Gandalf tried to speak Elvish to enter. I caught on to it and rose up to Gandalf and said “this is a riddle, Gandalf, what is the Elvish word for friend”, Gandalf told me “Mellon”, I spoke the word and the gates opened towards, squeaking slowly. When the gates finally opened and touched either side of the walls, we entered.


The entrance was grand, but not long after, the light faded into darkness. The darkness was fought by the light, when Gandalf lit his staff to a white light. When the light was seen, the ground was shown; with that came skeletons and creatures. We did not stay here long as we needed and wanted to get through the mines fast. As we made our way to the first passage, we were sThe hown how deep the mines were by Gandalf. He made an invisible bridge to the middle of the excavation. Where we observed the greatness of the mine and how much it has been deprived from the iron and life. He warned us on the journey back to ledge as it was narrow. We went single filed. As the end neared, Pippin through a rock down to see the depth, it was deep, but it disturbed something. A dark fiery figure rose from the bottom with a death stare aiming at Gandalf...
