The Day the Toronto Zoo changed...

Writer's picture: It'sMyBlyth It'sMyBlyth

We arrived at the zoo at around 9:00 a.m. and the day was starting out to be very hot and dry. When we all single filed out of the bus and made it to the entrance we were all handed individual glasses that were called “Glassez”; I assumed they were called this because of the “z” standing for zoo. They implied that these “Glassez” were only to be used for certain animals such as: tigers, penguins, giraffe and the Canadian moose. These zones were not available for entrance without these glasses on, and I assumed because there was something that the Zoo didn't want us to see.

At our first exhibit, The Penguins, the “Glassez” were mandatory. As I was walking down the hallway, there came a stream of light from what I could assume came from the tank, where the penguins were kept. However, this is just half of what I saw, there were also several security guards that were standing on either sides of the hallway throughout the tank. These guards made sure that no one would take off their Glassez, so whatever it was, can't be seen.

People came in and out, in and out. Obeying the rules with keeping their glasses on, however I was determined to see whatever it was. At this point I knew I needed to seek my friends so that they could all gather round and so I could take of the glasses and see. I got 5 of my good friends: Ben, Oliver, Olivia, Emma and Tyreese. As we made it back to The Penguins exhibit, they again made us put on the “Glassez”. We made it in easy, but we still needed to draw enough attention away from us as possible so we made Oliver fake taking his glasses off and run away, this took 4 guards with him and so it was b our turn. They all gathered around me, and I took them off before I could even say what I saw. I heard a guard say, “What is going on here?”
