My Journey to Innsbruck, Austria

Have you ever been to Whistler, British Columbia? Or maybe the Rockies? Think about the tallest and most pristine mountain range you can think of, multiply it by 1,000,000, and you have Innsbruck, Austria.

My journey to Innsbruck, Austria took place in January, 2016. The hockey team I was on at the time (Hamilton Huskies Major Bantam AAA), was selected to represent Canada at the 2016 International Children’s Games in Innsbruck. We traveled with three figure skaters from Hamilton who were also representing Canada, and we got pretty close with them in the short week we were there. Our team did pretty well, winning Gold, and going undefeated throughout the tournament. The figure skaters did well too, winning Gold and two Silvers. The real fun, was busing around the city of Innsbruck and checking out the mountain ranges that surrounded the city, essentially enclosing us in.

The mountains were absolutely massive, the largest I had ever seen with my own eyes, and were incredible to look at. From the arena we played at, you could see the mountain ranges from the ice! Pretty big distraction if you ask me. … We also had the opportunity to go up onto the mountains, and check the view out from the very top, which was breathtaking to say the least (pun intended). At the top, we felt as if the very mountaintop pierced through the sky, and we could almost touch the clouds! As we looked out upon the city of Innsbruck, it was magnificent. We saw all of the illuminated buildings stretching out high into the sky, as well as the older parts of town that looked rustic and stood the test of time.

Overall, my journey to Innsbruck, Austria can be summed up by one word: amazing. If you have never been, I highly recommend going for the view, as well as for the experience of the combined flight and many picturesque bus rides. If I had the opportunity to go back, I would absolutely take it in a heartbeat, and you should too!
