We woke up at 3 in the morning, ready to depart for the airport. I woke up wiping the sleep from under my eyes.
“Nathan, are you up yet? We are leaving in 20 minutes.” My mom called from across the hall.
“Yea. I am sooo tired. When is the flight again?” I replied in a flat tone.
“6:30, but it takes an hour to get to Pearson.”
On the car ride to the airport I slept the entire way. When we got there, it was practically empty, I don't know if I was expecting much more for about 4 in the morning, however. We got out of the car; got our bags and headed inside, passing under a blast of A/C air from up above. Refreshing. Once we were in, we found our check-in line, it was long, but manageable. After about 20 minutes, we were through and on a one way trip to Maui.
The plane was full on the way there, I didn't hear much of it as I, again, was sleeping. But how could you blame me, it was 7 in the morning! When I woke up we were about 1 hour away from L.A. I decided to get a drink of apple juice and something to eat as I hadn't eaten since the night before. The menu was scarce, but I ended up getting a breakfast bagel sandwich. The rest of the ride was spent watching movies and dozing off for short naps.
“Attention passengers, we are now starting our descent. You may now put on your seatbelt, as the sign is now on. Thank you,” I heard the captain say through my headset. As I knew we were now approaching the ‘City of Angels’, I was as excited as a cat with catnip. This was not the end of our journey, we still needed to make it to our final destination, Maui. When I asked her why we have to stay over in L.A. She replied “They did not make any direct flights to Hawaii anymore, at least at Pearson.”
We took a Taxi to the hotel we were staying at. Due to the time difference, the 6:30 a.m flight in Toronto ended up being a 10 a.m land on the west coast. That day was filled with: shopping, walking around the city and a tour, but to end off the day in the city of L.A we went and saw an L.A Kings’ game.
The Staples Centre, an arena with a lot of history, was now being used to host sports teams such as the: L.A Kings, L.A Clippers and L.A Lakers. On this day the Kings were facing a division rival, Edmonton. The game was intense and long. To decide the game they needed a shootout. A shootout is where one at a time a player goes down on each goalie, tries to make their best move and score. The game ended at around 10 p.m with The Oilers winning 3-2. We were tired and once we got to the hotel, fell asleep.
