It was a horrifying night. Gandalf, Pippin, Legolas, Boromir, and Gimli were all stressed and weary. I took a glance over at Gandalf and I saw that he was uneasy. I didn’t like seeing Gandalf like that because that makes me feel worried. Gandalf doesn’t get frightened easily. I knew something was coming. The Fellowship and I were walking down this path. It was dark, I could see nothing around me. All I saw was a glow in the distance. I felt the rocks pushing up on my feet and my heart, pounding out of my chest.
“Where are we going?” I whispered to myself, hoping someone would hear me.
“The Mines Of Moria” said Strider in a very frightened and crackling voice. I got a feeling that I hoped would never come. It was regret. I never wanted to feel held back from doing what was right, and that was to destroy the Ring. Every time I looked at the Ring I gained a liking for it. It was like the Ring was possessing me and taking over my body.
Finally, after miles of walking, we reached the mines. The way Strider described it to me made me not want to be here, but at least the walking was done for a moment and I could rest. We arrived at this huge gate. Gandalf called it ‘The Gate To Moria'. It was glowing and had designs all over it, the glowing light was going throughout the designs and there seemed to be some sort of writing at the bottom. It looked to be Elvish. Gandalf looked around with a smirk on his face almost as if he knew how to get in, and we were all stupid.
Gandalf finally, after making us feel dumb, said “the writing translates to speak, friend, and enter”. Gandalf tried multiple to say those words in Elvish and get in but nothing worked. I kept thinking about the riddle in my head. It finally clicked. I walked up confidently to Gandalf and said “it’s a riddle you fool, speak, friend, and enter”. I looked over at Gandalf “what’s the Elvish word for friend?” I asked in a confident, but hesitant way because me calling him a fool could go very wrong for me. He looked at me and said in a slow but nice voice “mellon”. The doors opened. The doors made a huge bang, but just opened normally.
The place inside the doors where dark and pitch black. You could see nothing. Gandalf slowly waved his hand over his staff and the stone glowed bright and it gave us light. What we saw was not expected. “This is supposed to be a mine?” asked Strider in a very confused voice. “This is not a mine. It is a tomb.” Everyone was scared, Gimli was walking back and forth very fast. I looked at him with concern in my eyes “Gimli, what’s wrong?” He looked at me as if I was a stranger. “These are dwarves!” He said in a loud, angry voice. He started to run around and grieve for each one he looked at, finally Strider looked at him and said in a low voice “stay calm Gimli, we don’t know what could be hearing us.” After a long while we all went to sleep…
