The Toronto Maple Leafs: everyone who watches sports knows the Toronto Maple Leafs for their hard times and lack of winning. Being a Leaf fan from 1967 to now hasn't been the most intriguing year’s, but things are finally, finally, finally starting to look up.
The Signing of a God:
At 1:08 pm July 1, 2018 Leaf fans got the news that they only could dream about, until now. He was coming home, John Tavares was coming home. A former first overall and future hall of famer was now locked in for seven years making $11 million dollars a year. John is 28 years old and is arguably one of the best players in the NHL. He will probably be the next captain for the Leafs and rightfully so. John Tavares has 669 games in the NHL with a jaw dropping 621 points. Taraves will be manning the middle most likely on the first line. He was a great player on New York. A team with limited amount of skill but now on Toronto a lot of people are expecting a breakout performance as he has been delivering in the pre-season.
The Young Guns:
Toronto Maple Leafs have their fair share of young talent as do so many other teams in the NHL. But Toronto has one thing the rest of the league doesn't. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner: I would say William Nylander but contract negotiations are currently a barrier. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have both been point per game players in their few NHL seasons, which is excellent. Auston coming off a poor playoff series and a season filled with injury hopes to stay healthy this season as he is one of the Leafs greatest assets. His tall figure, smooth stick handling and lighting quick shot were good for 34 goals and 29 assist in 62 games last season. Now for Mitch Marner. Another first rounder who needed some time to develop in junior but was worth it because he led the Leafs in points last season. In 82 games he got 22 goals and 47 assist. His small frame but quick feet and elusive moves can really get defenders guessing wrong. These two younglings plus Tavares will prove to be a deadly force in the league.
Champions Once Again:
This next decade will be the Toronto Maple Leafs year to win the Cup. Mark my words. This is the perfect time to hop on the Leafs bandwagon because all the stars are aligned and the Leafs are looking good.
