From nothing to something, Kendrick Lamar’s latest album DAMN. is one of the greatest of our time. The rapper is seen on a multitude of occasions from people all across the world, as somewhat of an icon.
It is important to realize that Hip-Hop has been storming the charts during the 21st century. Almost every person cannot get enough of the sounds and styles that come from Hip-Hop, but more importantly, the lyrics that come with it.
Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. is an album with great sound and even greater words within it. If you listen a bit closer, he touches upon subjects which make him out to be a master storyteller on each of his 14 tracks. A personal favourite titled LOVE. features vocalist Zacari and is able to represent how women in the media are portrayed and how misrepresented the actual word “love” is to the generation of today.
It is important to add that the album itself has a 9.2 rating on Pitchfork; leading many people to believe that this album is worth listening to. Every song sounds different from the last and unlike his previous album To Pimp a Butterfly, no repetition is used whatsoever. Each track is fresh and free-flowing and gives the listener the impression that this came directly from the passion Lamar has for his music and the industry as a whole.
His childhood struggles are evident within every track, letting the listener know what it was like to grow up in a community that was dangerous. He lets people understand what it would be like to have no defense against the life that you live and the need for survival on a daily basis. His life was hard, but it gives what he does with his music an even deeper understanding of how important it really is to him.
Kendrick Lamar is fueled by passion and staying true to who he is as a human being. Without what had occured in his previous life, he would not be where he is today. He believes it better to stay humble about the industry that he is in and the fame that comes along with being a very successful musician and storyteller. He never boasts about what he does, only thanking people for giving him the chance to tell his life through the music in which he creates. DAMN. is an amazing album for anyone who wants to dive a little deeper into hard times and coming out the other side as a better person who is happy and satisfied with where their life is going.
